Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

 

On Monday, April 8th, 2024, Cambridge will be hit with a near-total solar eclipse (93.1% coverage). All are welcome to a viewing party in the grassy field of Kingsley Park, a section of Fresh Pond Reservation (250 Fresh Pond Parkway), where the festivities will be underway from 2pm to 4:40pm. Feel free to bring your own blanket or chair!

 

What can you expect?

  • Live music by local folk band Trail Mix from 2:30-4:30pm
  • Free commemorative eclipse glasses (ISO safety certified)
  • Eclipse and astronomy-related experiments and displays
  • Educational resources, and new ways to appreciate this unique celestial event
  • Community togetherness and a sense of wonder!

Timeline of the Solar Eclipse

  • 2:16pm - The Moon begins to touch the Sun
  • 3:29pm - Peak of the Eclipse covers 93.1% of the Sun
  • 4:39pm - The Moon fully passes to the other side

 

This event is hosted by the Cambridge Water Department at the City's active drinking water supply, the largest open space in Cambridge
