City of Cambridge Patriots Day Observance Event Monday, April 17

The City of Cambridge Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS) will hold a Patriot’s Day Observance event on Monday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m., on the Cambridge Common, 1500 Massachusetts Avenue. Music and Kid Activities that had been scheduled following the speaking ceremony, have been tentatively Rescheduled for April 23. More information to be confirmed this week

DVS Director Neil MacInnes-Barker will serve as Master of Ceremonies and local historian Vincent Dixon will provide a brief history of William Dawes’ midnight ride. City Councillor Marc C. McGovern, Chair of the Human Services and Veterans Committee, will give the city’s greetings and City Councillor E. Denise Simmons will give remarks on Prince Hall, the black revolutionary soldier and founder of the Prince Hall Masons.

The event will be highlighted by a reenactment of William Dawes’ historic horseback ride from Boston to Cambridge alerting the colonists of the British threat of 1775.
