on Bicylist - Motorist Safety
Final designs for the Brookline Street Reconstruction project are complete. The project is planned to begin construction in September 2008 and last about 18 months. The project goals include: emphasize residential nature of the street, reduce traffic speed and provide a safe space for walking and bicycling, enhance the street with more trees. An open house for the project is planned for Tuesday June 17, 2008 from 7-9 pm at the Morse School on Granite Street.
The Cambridge Energy Alliance is a major energy initiative to implement unprecedented efficiency improvements in energy, water and transportation.
Walk/Ride Days
take place on the last Friday of every month. They are sponsored by the Cambridge Green Streets
Initiative.

About the Environmental and Transportation Planning Division
The Environmental and Transportation Planning Division of the Community Development Department is responsible for improving the city's quality of life, by working to protect and improve the city's environment and natural resources and by planning improvements to the city's transportation system.
Programs and Services
Programs provided by the division fall within the following areas:

Awards
The City of Cambridge has received a Smart Growth Leadership Award for its "Comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Program" from the Massachusetts Office for Commonwealth Development.

The City of Cambridge has been named an EPA Best Workplaces for Commuters.
The City of Cambridge has been chosen as one of only three recipients to receive a 2006 Commonwealth of Massachusetts Environmental Purchasing and Sustainability Award, as a result of collective efforts in the areas of climate protection, energy management, green building construction, greening of our fleet, outreach to businesses to become climate leaders, and energy fairs for residents.
