Dino Dig (Valente)

Join us at the Valente library for some dinosaur fun! It's your turn to be a paleontologist: use a chisel and brush to excavate your own tiny dinosaur. We'll play dinosaur trivia and look at dinosaur books! All supplies provided by the library. Recommended for ages 5+. Dinosaur coloring pages will be provided for younger children. From White Folks Who Teach in the Hood Book Talk (Main)

In August of 2024, Dr. Chris Emdin and Sam Seidel released From White Folks Who Teach in the Hood, a timely companion to the New York Times bestseller For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood...and the Rest of Y'all Too. This release is the white teachers guide to effective multicultural, anti-racist pedagogy. Designed for educators by educators From White Folks provides a compilation of over twenty powerful personal narratives from white teachers of Black and Brown children. Of the over twenty essays, several feature Cambridge raised authors, including Sam Seidel. This event will highlight the book and feature several of the Cambridge raised authors, reflecting on their careers in education and how their experiences growing up in Cambridge influenced them. This program is coponsored by the Library.

  • Equipment and Studio Reservations (Main)

    During this reservation period, anyone who has completed Hive training and is certified to use equipment or studio(s) can reserve Hive equipment or studio spaces. Staff will assist participants as they are able.

  • Wellness for Older Adults: Tai Chi Paradigm - Beginner (Main)

    Join us in this twelve-week Tai Chi Paradigm practice, which focuses on the mind and body connection. Tai Chi is a fluid sequence of movements choreographed in a low impact routine. Sifu Mynor Diaz has been learning and teaching Tai Chi classes for over 20 years. This is an in-person event. Due to the popularity of Sifu Diaz's classes, we expect participants to attend all sessions participation in this program will be decided by lottery. Registration opens Friday, August 9 at 9AM through Wednesday, August 21 at 5PM to enter. Participants selected will be notified on Friday, August 23. Each patron that is interested in participating is placed on the waitlist. Those names will constitute the pool from which 15 names will be drawn randomly.   • Creative Aging: Drawn to Nature (Main)

    Drawn to Nature is an introductory drawing course, focusing on the plant world as a basic subject. Botanical drawing is an ancient art, and we will examine how scientists and artists have drawn the natural world through the ages. Over ten weeks, we will focus on a variety of plant life, as we explore line, volume, space, and color with graphite and water-color. Students will keep notebooks recording both the plants they draw and the techniques they learn. All levels welcome. This will be an in-person program at the Main Library. Space is limited to 10 participants. Due to the popularity and to gain the most out of this program, we expect all participants to commit to all sessions in this 10-week course. Sponsored by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation

    Looking for some basic computer or mobile device guidance? Want help using an online resource? Need someone to read your resume and support navigating online job applications?   • Cambridge Young Authors' Squad - CYAS with author Dianna Sanchez (O'Neill)

    Young people ages 10 to 14 who love to write are welcome to share their ideas and writing. There will be time for share-outs/workshopping, as well as group or solo writing. Snacks are provided! This week we will meet local author Dianna Sanchez of the Enchanted Kitchen series. If you are attending for the first time, registration is helpful, but not required.

  • Studio Recording 101 (Main)

    Are you interested in podcasting, audio production, or video production? The Hive has two state-of-the-art recording studios! Join this workshop to become familiar with studio equipment and software. Registration is required. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.
