Traffic Regulations
The City of Cambridge Department of Traffic, Parking & Transportation (TP&T) was created in 1961 by the Massachusetts State Legislature. The act established the structure of the department, including the Traffic Regulations. This Act authorizes the Director of the Department to create, amend, or delete and part of these regulations.
The Traffic Regulations are in two major parts. The main body provides the text of the Regulations, while the Schedules list the specific locations where each regulation is valid. The Schedules are in table form and can be downloaded individually by choosing the appropriate item below.

Schedule 2 -- Reduced Speed Limits
Speed Zones. Speed limit signs cannot be posted unless the street segment is on this list. Each street segment on this list has been permitted by the MassDOT.

Schedule 4A -- No Turn on Red
A list of intersections and their approaches from which a right turn on a red signal is not permitted at any time. Right turn on red is allowed after making a full stop and yielding to any vehicle, bicycle, or pedestrian traffic unless a NO TURN ON RED sign is posted.

Residents can apply to have a parking space reserved for handicapped parking in front of their residence. Spaces can also be added in commercial areas where needed.

When a snow emergency is declared, parking is not permitted at ay time on these street segments. Snow emergency arteries aid the movement of fire apparatus, ambulances, police vehicles, and other emergency response vehicles in the event of heavy snow.
