The following was shared by the Massachusetts Latino Police Officers Association (MLPO):
The Massachusetts Latino Police Officers Association would like to thank Deputy Superintendent Christine Elow, Officer Gustavo Lopez, Officer Evelyn Kantor-Lugo and the Cambridge Police Department for providing their mentoring and experiences to Ms. Deana Beaulieu on Friday August 2, 2013. Ms. Beaulieu is considering her options in a career in Criminal Justice.
Testimonial - "The Mass Latino Police Officers Association (MLPO) quickly replied to an online message I sent for a shadowing opportunity for my niece Deana, who is currently an undecided major in community college. Like many of our Latino first-generation youth, the motivation and potential may exist but they might lack the know how and experiences to get to their destination. The MLPO responded with a lot of care and attention and made me feel like increasing this young Latina's access to a shadow experience was a priority! Thank you to the MLPO and the Cambridge Police Department Officers for being so welcoming and helping her connect with female and Latino officers...you made a tremendous impact on her!" - Cynthia K. "My experience with the Cambridge Police Department was phenomenal. The Officer that I worked closely with showed me around the departments and also brought me along with him in his cruiser so that I could see how it is to work as an officer for a day. I will never forget my experience and highly recommend students look into becoming a police officer if they are interested in helping their community." – Deana Beaulieu
