After an extensive investigation that spanned several months, two suspects wanted in connection with a February 15, 2022 shooting on Windsor Street have been taken into custody.

The two suspects –a 16-year-old male out of Somerville and a 17-year-old male out of Lynn – were arrested on warrants out of Cambridge District Court for Assault with Intent to Murder, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, and Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition without an FID Card.

A series of gunshots were reportedly fired in
the area of Windsor Street near Harvard Street in The Port neighborhood around 7:21 p.m. on February 15, 2022. Responding officers did locate and recover more than 10 shell casings and several rounds of ammunition. The initial investigation also discovered that four residential buildings were struck by gunfire. Two suspects were reportedly going through nearby backyards following the shooting. Fortunately, no residents or officers were injured during the incident.

After working closely with community partners, local, state and federal agencies, and obtaining search warrants for evidence recovered during the course of the investigation, Cambridge Police officers were able to determine probable cause for the arrest of the two juveniles.

The Cambridge Police were supported by the Massachusetts State Police, U.S. Secret Service, as well as several departments in the area, including Lynn, Malden, and the Somerville Police.

“We continue to be hyper-focused on curtailing gun violence in our city,” said Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow. “However, it is incredibly sad to see teenagers locally and around the region resorting to guns. Collectively, we need to wrap our arms around those that are struggling and need help. Particularly, the young people in our communities.”

Thus far, eight suspects have been arrested in connection with shootings and gunshot-related incidents that have taken place in Cambridge in 2022. There have been 13 confirmed incidents in 2022 compared to 12 through the same date in 2021.
