Northeast Sector Project

The City of Cambridge has completed and implemented a natural resource restoration and management plan for the areas of Lusitania Meadow, Neville Place, and the surrounding slopes. The Northeast Sector Project was based on recommendations from the Fresh Pond Reservation Master Plan as well as the preceding Fresh Pond Reservation Natural Resource Inventory and Natural Resource Stewardship Plan. This project was funded jointly by the Community Preservation Act and the City of Cambridge.

The following are the goals achieved by the Northeast Sector Project:

1. Improve the health of Fresh Pond Reservoir by reducing erosion and enhancing natural filtration processes.

2. Reduce invasive plant species and increase native species diversity within the Reservation.

3. Create beautiful, universally accessible space within the Reservation.

4. Produce new, inviting active use areas further from the Reservoir.
