• Cambridge Water Department Proactively Works to Eliminate Lead Service Lines

  The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has set a goal of replacing all lead service lines in Massachusetts within the next five years, eight years ahead of the new Federal EPA regulation requiring all lead services to be replaced by 2037.

• Commonwealth Elevates Northeast Region, Which Includes Cambridge, to Level 3- Critical Drought Status

  Due to the abnormally low levels, the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) today elevated the Northeast Region of Massachusetts, which includes Cambridge, from a Level 1- Mild Drought to a Level 3- Critical Drought.

• City of Cambridge Returns to using its own Water Source

  The City of Cambridge has announced that the Water Department will resume using the city-owned water supply on November 19, 2022. Newly installed filter media at the Cambridge Water Department has reduced PFAS6 levels.

• Cambridge to Temporarily Switch to MWRA Water for Remainder of 2022

  The City of Cambridge will temporarily begin sourcing its water from the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) starting Tuesday, August 30, 2022. The Cambridge Water Department anticipates that the MWRA will exclusively supply all of Cambridge’s public water through the end of the year.
