Mermaid Promenade during 2019 Cambridge Arts River Festival.

Cambridge Arts is seeking original short videos to be part of a virtual Mermaid Promenade that the city agency is planning for the Cambridge Arts Stream Festival, our annual River Festival reimagined as an online experience on June 6, 2020.

The Mermaid Promenade will be a participatory community video highlighting the themes of mermaids/mermen, other water creatures and features (fish, whales, seals, seaweed, boats, etc.), and the environment (our love of the Charles River, concerns about how climate disruption is affecting our world, and in particular our rivers and waterways). The promenade is intended to be, by turns, whimsical and serious.

The Mermaid Promenade composite video will be a culminating event during the afternoon of the Stream Festival. Community members are invited to participate in the Promenade by creating a short video (around 10 seconds) where they or their mermaid puppets enter the screen from the left and exit to the right.

Entries can be anything from animated art to finger puppets to costumed performances to dance. Surprise us! Express the theme of "Mermaid Promenade" through the media of your choice. And submissions reflecting the rich and diverse traditions of our community are encouraged.

Deadline: Please send your videos by May 27, 2020. All applicants will be notified of selection decisions by no later than May 29, 2020.

The Cambridge Arts Stream Festival is a free, virtual event featuring live performances of music, theater, dance, and poetry.
