Job Description
Research Assistant
The Cambridge Women's Heritage Project is a collaborative project, jointly sponsored by the Cambridge Women's Commission and the Cambridge Historical Commission. Its goal is to create programs to recognize the past and present contributions of notable Cambridge women from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and experiences. The Cambridge Women's Heritage Project seeks to support the present and future endeavors of Cambridge women by acknowledging the rich history and significance of Cambridge women past.
Job Description:
The Research Assistant will be responsible for documenting and fact-checking
biographical information for the Cambridge Women's Heritage Project, as assigned
by the committee overseeing the Cambridge Women's Heritage Project. Some editing
of draft biographies and data entry of finalized text to the Cambridge Women's
Database.
The Assistant will be directly supervised by staff of the Cambridge Women's
Commission and Cambridge Historical Commission.
The goals for this internship are to compile biographical entries of notable Cambridge women for inclusion on the project's web site and for educational display. The work will primarily consist of independent research at local libraries, including the Schlesinger Library. A Windows NT computer with Microsoft Word for Windows software will be available during pre-arranged hours. The intern will meet weekly with the staff and will attend the regular monthly meeting of the Cambridge Women's Heritage Project.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have strong research and writing skills, as well as a familiarity
with MS Word word-processing. Experience with MS Access database software and
MS Excel is a plus. An interest in women's issues and history is helpful. Candidates
should be self-motivated and be able to work well independently. Please submit

Period of Employment:
Flexible start date. This is a part time position with flexible hours from 3
to 10 hours per week. The weekly work schedule may be arranged with staff of
the Cambridge Women's Commission and Cambridge Historical Commission.
Pay rate:
This is an unpaid, voluntary position. Please ask about arrangements for earning
college credit for the internship.
