The Cambridge Historical Commission is pleased to announce that the Mass Cultural Council awarded us a FY2018 Cultural Investment Portfolio (CIP) grant of $7,300.

The Historical Commission, the city’s historic preservation agency, maintains a dynamic public archive of Cambridge’s architectural and social history that is accessed each year by almost four hundred researchers, including homeowners, academics, amateur genealogists, and novelists. The grant allowed us to continue our support of a part-time Archives Assistant.

In FY2018, the assistant began to catalogue our small non-circulating research library; as of June 1, 2018, she had catalogued over 1,000 books and pamphlets. Visit https://www.librarycat.org/lib/chclibarch831 and see what you can find.

The Commission deeply appreciates the continuing work and support of the Mass Cultural Council

The Historical Commission collects materials on Cambridge industries, past and present. The Crest Manufacturing Company at Broadway, Portland, and Davis streets designed and assembled a variety of vehicles. In 1903 the company introduced The Crestmobile, offered in two models, for two or four passengers. The 2-person auto cost $750, with several roofing options.
