Cambridge Police responded to Franklin Street at Magazine Street for a report of a person with a possible gun. Emergency Communication Center (ECC) gave responding officers a description of the male. Upon arrival, Officers observed one male matching the description of the male with a possible firearm and another male. The two males were in close proximity to each other fitting the description of the two suspicious parties. As officers approached the two suspects, one of the suspects (later identified as a Cambridge resident) began to walk away as the other suspect spoke with officers. Officers ordered the suspect to stop and he began to run away. Officer then chased him approximately one block toward Pearl Street. While chasing him, Officers had to run through an intersection that is usually busy. Officers were able to get close behind the suspect, reach out and grab his backpack while running. Officers were able to detain the suspect and pat frisk him for weapons, yielding negative results. Multiple people were standing around the benches in front of a senior housing building at Franklin Street and watched as Officers chased and fell with the suspect. Officers then observed a clear plastic bag containing a white substance in the immediate area of where he was detained. After an investigation, the resident was informed that he will be summonsed to court for Trafficking Methamphetamine and Disorderly Conduct. A firearm was not located on the suspect or in the area of the chase.
