The Department of Public Works has announced several changes regarding construction permit fees that will come into effect on January 1, 2024. In our ongoing effort to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of our permitting process, we have conducted a thorough review of our fee structure. As a result, certain construction permit fees have been revised. A complete revised fee schedule will be available for your reference on January 1, 2024.
Key changes:
- Excavation Permit (for public right-of-way)
- Sidewalk Obstruction Permits (monthly fee)
- Sidewalk Obstruction – Closure $100 + $2/SF
- Sidewalk Obstruction – Daily Closure $100
- Sidewalk Obstruction – Walk-through Staging $500 + $10/LF > 50 ft
Sidewalk Obstruction Permits will now include three categories. The rate for a full sidewalk closure remains the same. A new daily closure category is available for projects in which the sidewalk is only closed during business hours (M-F, 7 A.M. – 6 P.M.) then reopened at the end of the day. The rate for walk-through staging closures will now distinguish between small and large-scale projects. The DPW Permits Coordinator will assist in determining the appropriate permit type.
- Utility Inspectors’ Overtime Fee
While not a standalone permit or fee, this is assessed as part of various permits’ total costs. The new fee reflects actual OT rates for inspectors.
These fee changes come after a review of construction-related permit fees that have not been increased in a decade. The new fee structure remains competitive with surrounding communities while allowing Public Works to continue delivering efficient and effective permit processing, ensuring the safety and quality of construction in our City.
