Building / Electric / Plumbing Permits
The Building Inspectors accept the building permit applications, review and approve them. They follow the permit from start to finish which could include many inspections from excavation to rough to final, depending on the type of permit and the extent of the work to be performed.
The Electrical/Wiring Inspectors accept all electrical/wiring permit applications, reviews and approves. They follow the permit from start to finish, which includes at least 2 inspections, a rough and a final.
The Plumbing/Gas Inspectors accept all plumbing/Gas permit applications, reviews and approves. They follow the permit from start to finish which includes at least 2 inspections, a rough and a final.
The Building, Electrical and Plumbing/Gas Inspectors will work together on many work sites. A building inspector cannot approve steps to be taken by the contractor until the electrical or plumbing/gas inspector has signed off on the utility work that has been completed.
Construction Hours in Residential Areas
City Ordinance # 8.16.80 states that construction in residential areas can be done Monday – Friday 7:00am – 6:00pm & Saturdays 9:00am – 6:00pm. Construction work cannot be performed on Sunday without a special permit from the Police Department.

Section F. Construction. Operating or permitting the operation of any tools or equipment used in construction, drilling, or demolition work:
1. Between the hours of six p.m. and seven a.m. the following day on weekdays, or between the hours of six p.m. and nine a.m. the following day when the following day is a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, such that the sound there from is plainly audible at a distance of fifty feet from the lot line of the lot on which said activity is located, or within a noise sensitive zone, except for emergency work of public service utilities or by special variance issued pursuant to subsection B of Section 8.16.090.
