As students adjust to new classrooms and back-to-school routines, the Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) is thrilled to welcome students of all ages – from preschoolers to adults – back to our school-year programs!
- 1,500+ children in Kindergarten – 8th grade are enrolled in DHSP Afterschool Programs across 19 afterschool sites at Community Schools, Childcare Afterschool programs, King Open Extended Day, and Youth Centers. (View 2024 DHSP Afterschool Lottery Data)
- 777 preschoolers are enrolled in high-quality preschool programs through the Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP), the City’s universal preschool program led by the Office of Early Childhood. 150+ 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds are enrolled in DHSP Preschool Programs across 7 DHSP preschool sites through CPP.
- 400+ adult learners began a new semester at the Community Learning Center (CLC) this September. The CLC offers free programs that help adults learn English, prepare to take their high school equivalency test, get ready for college, gets hands-on job training, and become a U.S. citizen. Across programs, the CLC serves more than 800 adult learners each year.
- Cambridge residents supported by the College Success Initiative (CSI) began their semesters at Bunker Hill Community College and UMass Boston. CSI has served more than 360 students since it was created in 2014 to advance the college completion rate of Cambridge residents who are historically underrepresented in higher education, including immigrants, first-generation students, and students from low-income households.
