Description

Calendar event imageFor the fourth year in a row, the City of Cambridge is pleased to participate in Cambridge’s Safer Homes, Safer Community: Gun Buy-Back” Day on Saturday, June 9 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. This public health and public safety-based event will provide residents with an opportunity to anonymously and safely dispose of their unwanted firearms and, in turn, reduce the potential for an accidental discharge or crime in a home.

Over the first three years, more than 100 guns have been turned in by residents. In one instance, a resident found a left behind gun in a newly purchased home, and in another situation, a family was looking to keep their gun from accidently landing in their children’s hands.

The parking lot at the Pentecostal Tabernacle off of 77 Columbia Street near Central Square will host this year's event.

If you or someone you know has an unused or unwanted gun, we strongly encourage you to stop by at either location on Saturday, June 9.  Gift cards – ranging between $50-$200 – will be awarded to participants.  Children will even receive $5 ice cream gift cards for turning in any toy guns they decide to turn in.
