Cambridge Police Promotes Two Veteran Officers to Deputy Superintendent

The Cambridge Police Department held a ceremony this morning at the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility for John Boyle and Frederick Cabral, who were promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent.

Boyle has worked in all major units and divisions within the Cambridge Police Department throughout his near 18-year CPD career, including Traffic Enforcement, Patrol Operations, Investigations, Administration and Tactical Operations.  He has been a Supervisor since 2008. Cabral, who graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin, has worked in Patrol Operations, the Community Relations Unit and the Family and Social Justice Section. He has been a Supervisor since 2012 and been with CPD for nearly 18-years.

Boyle will join Deputy Superintendent Ferreira in Night Operations, while Cabral will become the Deputy Superintendent of the Criminal Investigations Unit.

Commissioner Bard stated, “You both come from long-standing Cambridge families, but that is not why you are standing here today. You are standing here today because during my tenure, the work ethic and values that you have displayed have earned you this appointment. I want to congratulate you on your accomplishments and wish you the best in your new roles.”

City Manager Louis A. DePasquale stated, “Deputies Boyle and Cabral know that it is their responsibility to continue emphasizing that policing in Cambridge is not about arrests, but about helping people and working to get them the assistance they need. I want to congratulate them on their promotions.”
