INCIDENT 21003516

While conducting routine patrol, a Cambridge Police Officer observed a disturbance and a man calling for help at a convenience store located at the intersection of Prospect Street and Hampshire Street. After hearing the victim state "he stole my car", the Cambridge Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the operator ignored all lawful signs to stop for police. The suspect would later be identified as Lens Altidore, 21, 56 Cherry Street in Cambridge. Cambridge Police followed the stolen vehicle northbound on Prospect Street, while Altidore operated in a reckless manner on busy public ways, committing several traffic violations, including marked lane and red light violations, which might have resulted in someone's serious injury. It was later discovered, after speaking with the victim, a witness, and observing surveillance footage, that the victim and Altidore conversed inside of the store before Altidore assaulted the victim, took his keys, and knowingly entered the victim's vehicle. It was also discovered that Altidore's license is currently suspended. While attempting to place Altidore under arrest, he assaulted the uniformed officer several times. Due to his actions, Altidore is being charged in Cambridge District Court with Carjacking, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Failure to Stop for Police, Marked Lane Violation and Failure to Stop/Yield at a Red Light.
