Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow and Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis have confirmed that Miguel A. Lorenzo, 31, of Malden, was arrested yesterday at his home without incident on an outstanding warrant out of Middlesex Superior Court. Lorenzo was transported to Middlesex Superior Court today, where he was arraigned on two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, one count of Possession of a Firearm without a License as an Armed Career Criminal, one count of Possession of Ammunition without a License as an Armed Career Criminal, one count of Carrying a Loaded Firearm and one count of Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Dwelling.

Assistant Clerk Magistrate Daniel Flaherty ordered the defendant to be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on December 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.

On Friday, November 19, 2021, the Cambridge Police responded to Sciarappa Street on the report of gunshots at 2:12 a.m. The defendant —who was later identified as Lorenzo— was then reportedly observed entering a house where an extended standoff situation with police took place. Officers attempted to communicate with the defendant — which included the use of a loud speaker — to peacefully de-escalate the situation.  At the same time, officers were able to safely evacuate other occupants from the multi-floor residential building. Messages were issued to residents in the immediate area asking them to shelter in place. Shortly before 6:30 a.m., the defendant was ultimately arrested without incident and transported to the police station. No one was injured during the incident. A loaded firearm was recovered from the bed of a truck parked outside the residence and additional ballistic evidence was recovered on the ground near the house.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Cambridge Police Department. The prosecutor assigned to the investigation is Caitlin Gemmill.
