New Full-Time Career and Job Opportunity for Cambridge Residents Between 18-23 Years Old

2023 Cadet Class Flyer

The Cambridge Police Department is currently seeking applicants for its fourth Cadet class. Designed for Cambridge residents between the ages of 18-23 years old who have an interest in serving the community and potentially pursuing a career in policing, the Cambridge Police Cadet Program offers a competitive hourly wage ($19.29), 37.5 hours a week, strong benefits, vacation time, and many opportunities to learn and participate in community events. The deadline to apply for the next Cambridge Police Cadet exam is Friday, June 30, 2023.

Interested residents can download the application, review Cadet responsibilities, and learn more about the program at http://camb.ma/policecadet. The next class -- the fourth since the program was reinstated in 2019 -- is scheduled to begin this fall.

Cambridge Police Cadets are provided with extensive community engagement, classroom training, field assignments, administrative duties, and daily fitness and health training opportunities. Police Cadets become familiar with the daily operations and functions of the department and culture of its community policing-related work through temporary assignments throughout various sections of the department, including the Commissioner’s Office, Patrol Operations, Support Services, and specialized units. As part of the Department, Police Cadets also participate in community policing activities and frequently engage with residents, businesses, and visitors of the City of Cambridge.

The Cambridge Police Cadet Program was reinstated in 2019 after a more than 30-year hiatus. Four Cadets already graduated from the Cambridge-Northeastern Police Academy and became Cambridge Police officers. Two other Cadets are currently in the Cambridge-Northeastern Police Academy and are expected to join the Cambridge Police Department in June 2023.

What do the current Cadets like about being in the program?

  • “I have never imagined my life heading this way, but it has given me a purpose and an opportunity to serve my community. Most of all, it has given me something to look forward to.” - Cadet Saimon Teclezghi
  • “Out of the many things I like about being a Cadet, one thing that I look back on and enjoy is the bond that myself and my other fellow Cadets have built over time. It’s nice to see how far we’ve come from being outside in the waiting room on day one. To see us all here with such a strong foundation is something I cherish.” – Cadet Brendon Lewis

To be eligible for the Cadet Program, a candidate must be a current Cambridge resident between the ages of 18-23 at the time of the June 30, 2023 application deadline, have lived in the city for the last three years, have a high school diploma or a GED certificate at the time of the exam, be a citizen of the United States, have a valid Massachusetts’ Driver’s License and a good driving record, pass a screening process, and take and pass the exam.
