Police Commissioner Visits Student Officers at Cambridge-Northeastern Police Academy
Commissioner Christine Elow and members of her leadership team visited student officers at the 6th Cambridge-Northeastern Police Academy. When the program concludes in June, the more than 30 graduating officers will serve in communities across eastern Massachusetts. Three female and six male graduates will serve on the Cambridge Police Department. Commissioner Elow, Superintendent Fred Cabral and Superintendent Pauline Wells spent time with the student officers talking about their early career experiences and what they have learned in their leadership roles. Commissioner Elow, the first woman of color to lead the department, joked about her misconceptions early on as a woman in law enforcement and how she quickly learned to become a strong leader she needed to be herself. In our report, some of the student officers also shared what they’ve already learned one month in.
