Cambridge Police Investigating Harvard Street Shooting

On Tuesday night, June 16, 2024, at approximately 9:13 p.m., Cambridge Police responded to the area of 131 Harvard Street after an area patrol unit heard what appeared to be gunshots. In addition, Cambridge Police received a notification of a ShotSpotter activation. Arriving units located a male suffering from a gunshot wound in front of the tennis courts on Harvard Street at Moore Street. The male, identified as a 48-year-old from Cambridge, was transported to a Boston hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the left hip area. He survived the surgery and remains hospitalized. In the area, investigators located a loaded .9mm Glock pistol, as well as multiple shell casings in the area of 131 Harvard Street. In addition, investigators located ballistic damage to two motor vehicles as well as to the front of a building.  Initial witness statements indicate that several males were playing cards in front of the tennis courts and several youths were also in the area when the shots were fired. At this time, it is unknown if there was an intended target. It is believed that all youths fled the area. Massachusetts State Police investigators assigned to the District Attorney’s office are assisting Cambridge Police with the investigation.
