Cambridge Police Youth Resource Officers Biking their Beat
Cambridge Police Youth Resource Officers Biking their Beat
Cambridge Police Department Youth Resource Officers (YRO) are biking their beat while school is out. When they are not at youth centers across the city, you can find our officers patrolling on two wheels. YRO J.J. Jones says many officers like the option of more mobility while on duty. “One of the beautiful things about being on the bikes is that we actually get to be out of the cruiser, connecting with people, and really get a feel for the quality-of-life issues that are going on in the neighborhoods,” explained Jones.

Officers bike through the City’s squares and parks, where you can find them stopping and engaging the public to learn more about what is going on in the community. Officers on bicycles are highly mobile, more visible, and more approachable. Our officers also use bicycles to promote roadway safety for all modes of transportation.
YRO Pamela Morris says it’s also a win-win for them because they are getting exercise and enjoying the summer weather. “Never anything wrong with a little vitamin D while on shift. I appreciate it.” Please stop our officers on bicycles and introduce yourself. “We are all friendly and love to meet new people,” said Jones.
