How Cambridge Police Officers Train for the Unknown

Police training plays a crucial role in the development of police officers. In the Cambridge-Northeastern Police Academy, our officers undergo extensive training in Applied Patrol Procedures (APP). This is the practical portion of their training where they take everything they learned in the classroom and apply it to real life situations. The Academy stages multiple mock scenarios with veteran officers playing roles to demonstrate what they may encounter in the field. The training covers all aspects of their work ranging from traffic stops to active shooters. One key focus is on de-escalation where officers learn how to reduce the immediate threat by remaining calm and actively listening to a person experiencing conflict.
