Three Charged After Shots Fired In Busy Cambridge Neighborhood
CAMBRIDGE – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow have confirmed that three individuals have been charged after gunshots were fired in a busy Cambridge neighborhood last month.
On Friday, November 22, 2024, at approximately 2:10 p.m. Cambridge Police responded to the 300 block of Rindge Avenue for a report of shots fired. Initial reports indicated that, upon hearing gunshots, witnesses observed a red sedan fleeing the area and three individuals running down Rindge Avenue.
Investigators collected surveillance video which showed a red Lexus traveling on Rindge Avenue on the wrong side of the road and up onto the sidewalk. Three male suspects can be seen allegedly chasing the vehicle on foot. One of the males allegedly fired two shots at the fleeing vehicle as it traveled down the sidewalk. The vehicle then struck a traffic light pole knocking it to the ground. As a result of the crash, the Lexus suffered significant front-end damage and investigators observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the right bumper. Two shell casings were collected in the area. Detectives were able to identify the three suspects, one juvenile male and two adult males, Daniel Cabrera, 20, of Cambridge, and Elias Reardon, 18, of Cambridge.
“This is a case of brazen disregard for the safety of the community. Firing a gun in the middle of the day in one of the busier neighborhoods of Cambridge, where children attend school and daycare, and many others go to work every day cannot be tolerated. We are committed to dedicating all the resources necessary to identifying and holding accountable the perpetrators of gun violence,” said District Attorney Ryan.
“Gun violence, particularly violence involving youth has been an ongoing concern and priority and we remain deeply committed to aggressively investigating and mitigating such harmful activity,” said Commissioner Christine Elow.
Elias Reardon was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and possession of a firearm. He was arraigned in Cambridge District Court on November 24, 2024, and held pursuant to the 58a dangerousness statute.
Daniel Cabrera was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, assault and battery with a firearm, possession of a firearm without an FID card, carrying a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and malicious destruction of property more than $1200. He was arraigned in Cambridge District Court on December 4, 2024, and held pursuant to the 58a dangerousness statute.
The juvenile male was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. He was arraigned in Cambridge Juvenile Court on December 4, 2024. With the exception of youthful offenders juvenile proceedings are closed to the public.
This case is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Cambridge Police Department and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. The prosecutor assigned to this case is Ceara Mahoney.
