Director's Update, August 18, 2024

Dear Patrons,

It’s the last week of Summer Reading! Check out this week’s special programs to close it out.

On Tuesday, August 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., join us for a darning workshop. Darning is a fabric mending technique that involves reinforcing or reweaving a portion of fabric by hand. Learn how to visibly mend holes and weak areas in sweaters, socks, and other knit fabrics using the seed stitch and square darning techniques. Suitable for beginners with little or no darning experience, though it does help if you have some experience with hand sewing. Registration is required.

In September, we’re launching a new Wednesday night creative writing group. Writers of all experience levels are invited to join a casual, peer-supported group. Participants will take turns bringing short partial or completed pieces of any genre. The group will read several pieces each month, sharing feedback and constructive criticism in a supportive and inclusive environment. Registration is required and opens on Wednesday, August 21, at 6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, August 21, at 5:30 p.m., join Cambridge Arts and the Valente and O'Connell branches of the Library for a tour of the public art in East Cambridge. Explore the artwork and learn about how Cambridge Arts commissions and maintains art for public enjoyment. Meet outside the Valente Branch on Cambridge Street. Registration is required
