    • STEAM Academy: Innovators for Purpose Summer Studio (Main)

      Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a youth-powered design and innovation program where young creatives channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology and storytelling within a social justice framework, iFp creatives engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. July 8 - August 9, weekdays from 9:15am-3:30pm at the Main Library

    • Expressive Art for Older Adults: Beading Workshop (Main)

      Learn the basics of beaded jewelry making and the difference between semi-precious stones and precious stones. Participants will keep all pieces they make.     • Morning Sing-Along (Main)

      Main Library, Curious George Room, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      It's a Library dance party! All ages. This program can accommodate 130 people. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis on the day of the program. The entire party must be present to receive a ticket. This program starts promptly, and any unclaimed seats will be offered to someone waiting. We appreciate your patience and understanding.       Join us for 25 minutes of singing and dancing in the sun! Sing-Along will take place in Joan Lorentz Park, to the side of the building nearest the Cambridge Rindge & Latin School. This program is for children of all ages and their caregivers. No registration is required. In the event of rain, this program will move to the Curious George Room inside the Libray.

    • Summer Reading: Reading with Ducks from Land's Sake Farm (Boudreau)

      Boudreau Branch, 245 Concord Ave., Cambridge, MA 02138

      Meet some swimming, quacking friends! This program includes a duck-themed story time, learning about duck behavior and anatomy, and a duck-themed craft project, game, or movement activity. The highlight of the program is the Duck Circle, where youth are able to touch and interact with a live duck. This program is for children of all ages with a caregiver. Registration is required. When registering, please indicate how many children are attending. Adults do not need to be included in the numbers for registration. Funding for Summer Reading has been generously provided by the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Cambridge Public Library and Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners

    • Serger Training (Main)

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      Are you an intermediate or advanced sewer? This workshop will cover serger machine setup, threading a serger, and identifying correct tension settings with different types of fabric. You will learn about ways to use our Elna Extend 864 Air serger to take your sewing skills to the next level by producing special finishing styles, hemming, trimming and assembling your garments. This workshop is designed for patrons who have prior experience using a sewing machine. If you are new to machine sewing, we recommend you take our Sewing 101 workshop before using our serger.

Book a free one-on-one tech help session at the Boudreau branch: Some topics we cover include: ● Downloading library eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines to your tablet, smartphone, or laptop ● Navigating databases and other library resources such as Linkedin Learning ● Using the Internet and e-mail ● Setting up devices like smartphones or streaming devices Guidelines for basic Tech help: ● Scheduled sessions run between 30-45 minutes. ● Please bring your device, cords and any necessary account information. ● Library staff cannot be held responsible for damage to patron-owned equipment.       Continue building your machine-sewing skills AND receive support as you work on your own sewing projects with our Library sewing community. Participants must register but may drop-in any time during the program. This program is designed for patrons who know the basics of how to use our Janome sewing machines.
