Art Talks for Older Adults: Lives of the French Impressionists (Main)
Wednesday, November 13
1-2 p.m.
We are probably all familiar with French Impressionist paintings -- the sun-dappled haystacks by Claude Monet and the fresh, young faces captured by Auguste Renoir. But what do we know about the artists as people? Actually, quite a lot! For example, we know that Gustave Caillebotte paid Camille Pissarro’s rent on more than one occasion. And we know that Claude Monet was a pallbearer at Edouard Manet’s funeral. Their lives and art works were intertwined in a way that is hard for us to imagine today. They were, at once, both competitors and colleagues. Join the historian Mary C. Woodward for a close look at the lives of the French Impressionists. Woodward has spent more than 40 years in the museum and historic home business, having earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Art History. Sponsored by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation.

- One broken ceramic piece (No more than four pieces, repairable within 10 inches. Please do not bring family heirlooms or sentimental pieces.)
- A container large enough to hold the repaired piece for safe transport
Please note that pieces not meeting these requirements may not be finished during the workshop.
