Just A Start Adult Career Training
The City of Cambridge provides support to Just A Start's Adult Career Training Program, which offers free training in Biomedical and Information Technology careers:
The IT Careers Program prepares individuals for Computer User Support Specialist positions in a business environment. Students are able to obtain stackable industry-recognized credentials and certificates (i.e. CompTIAA+ and NetAcad) and gain knowledge and hands-on experience in Computer Hardware, Windows OS support, networking techniques, Help Desk-targeted skills.
The Biomedical Careers Program provides instruction in Biology, Chemistry, Medical terminology, and computer and laboratory skills. Training is done at our building located across the street from Alewife Station on the Red Line.
In both programs, students also receive job readiness training such as preparing a resume, interviewing, and job search. Students are also introduced to industry professionals through career talks and employer site visits. After graduation, students receive follow up services for up to one year, until they are placed in relevant employment.
To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Be a Massachusetts resident
- Have a high school diploma (from any country)
- Meet low to moderate income eligibility
- Pass an Accuplacer exam
Enrollment is based on rolling admissions. Applications open in the spring.
