Law enforcement leaders, including Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas, met with President Obama Tuesday to discuss immigration policy and the urgency for Congress to vote on commonsense immigration reform.
Commissioner Haas joined more than 40 law enforcement officials from across the country. They met with President Obama, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and other senior officials for a briefing and discussion on how commonsense immigration reform will help law enforcement better serve and protect their communities, and the critical role of law enforcement in the current national dialogue.
“It was an honor to be invited and meet with the President, Secretary Johnson and other distinguished officials,” Commissioner Haas said. “I was pleased to see how they recognize the importance of moving forward with the reform and I support House leaders as they seek long-term stability for our communities, our families and our economy.”
“Your voices are critical … law enforcement support lends the issue great credibility,” President Obama said during the meeting.
Administration officials at the meeting also included DHS Assistant Secretary Alan Bersin, DHS Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, White House Domestic Policy Council member Cecilia Muñoz and Assistant Attorney General Tony West.
