caution sign The information on this page may be outdated as it was published 9 years ago.

The Cambridge Police are warning Cambridgeport residents of a housebreak pattern that has surfaced in the last two weeks, as six incidents have been reported since 12/23/2014.  All six housebreaks featured window entries involving cut or unlocked screens. The typical timeframe occurred during the week between 3–6:30 p.m.

The
housebreaks have been reported in the Cambridgeport neighborhood on the following streets:

  • Fairmont Avenue
  • Fairmont Street (2)
  • Granite Street
  • Lopez Street
  • Prince Street

During the housebreaks, suspect(s) have primarily targeted laptops and electronics.  This current series of housebreaks follows a housebreak pattern that occurred in Cambridgeport in October and early November.

Cambridge Police have directed extra attention to this area, but are encouraging homeowners to take the following precautions to protect themselves and their belongings from theft:

  • ALWAYS lock your doors and windows at your home, particularly your basement door(s) and don’t forget about those that can be accessed by a fire escape.
  • Install guards on windows that prevent them from being raised more than a few inches.
  • NEVER prop open a door or let someone in behind you if you live in an apartment building and don’t know them.
  • Install motion sensor lights around your home and out of reach.
