The Cambridge Police Department held a ceremony this morning inside the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility for Joseph L. Wilson III, who was promoted to the rank of Police Superintendent.

Superintendent Wilson joined the Cambridge Police Department in 1987 and has served in a variety of patrol operations roles during his distinguished career with the Cambridge Police. Most recently, he was a Deputy Superintendent for Night Operations.

Mayor David P. Maher, City Manager Richard C. Rossi, Deputy City Manager Lisa C. Peterson, Councilor Leland Cheung, Councilor Craig A. Kelley, Councilor Timothy J. Toomey Jr. and Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas joined other city officials, officers, family members and friends at the ceremony to honor Superintendent Wilson on his promotion.

City Manager Rossi stated, “Joe has the skill, ability and willingness to ensure his leadership is the highest level. He has earned the respect from city leadership and the entire police department. And, most importantly, he genuinely wants to engage with the community and build bridges."

Commissioner Haas added, “Superintendent Wilson has some big shoes to fill following Steve Williams retirement. His job will be to take what Steve established and advance it. I have the utmost confidence that he will fulfill that mission.”
