Cambridge Police units were dispatched to a bank at Massachusetts Avenue for a bank robbery in progress. ECC updated the responding units that the defendant – Albert Dathan, 53, homeless -- had entered the bank with a crowbar and walked up to a teller. The defendant then left the bank on foot towards Essex Street. The defendant was then seen by a security officer stationed outside the bank getting into a red motor vehicle. Police units in the area of Central Square apprehended Dathan in the vehicle in question and ordered him out of his vehicle. After a police investigation was conducted, it was determined that Albert would be placed under arrest and charged with Assault by Means with a Dangerous Weapon (crowbar). While at the police station, the booking officer conducting a search of Dathan’s property located a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and, as a result, Dathan was also charged with possession of Class B.
