The Cambridge Police today announced that a suspect was arrested last night following an ongoing criminal investigation of recent gunshot activity in The Port. Dwayne Cassama, 22, 18 Newtown Court in Cambridge, was arrested and two illegal firearms and a wide-range of drugs were seized.
A search warrant was executed at Cassama’s residence and in his motor vehicle, which led to the discovery and confiscation of two semi-automatic handguns, cash, approximately 16 grams of cocaine, approximately 11 grams of methamphetamine, approximately three grams of heroin, marijuana and other evidence. During the investigation, officers learned that Cassama did not have a License to Carry.
Cassama was arrested and faced arraignment in Cambridge District Court on a number of offenses:
• Possession of a Firearm without a License to Carry, Second Offense
• Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class A Substance (Heroin), Second Offense
• Trafficking Cocaine
• Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
• Failure to Stop/Yield
• No Inspection Sticker.
“Our officers exhibited fine work in actively working this case and ultimately removing a potentially dangerous suspect, firearms and narcotics from our community,” said Deputy Superintendent Steven DeMarco. “We are extremely pleased with their efforts and the safe outcome.”
The details contained above are allegations. The suspect is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
