The Cambridge Police Department is encouraging residents to be aware of their surroundings and be vigilant after two men were targeted early this morning in two separate, attempted street robberies in Cambridgeport and The Port.

The first incident occurred at approximately midnight in the area of Pearl Street and Lopez Street.  A male in his twenties stated he was walking alone when two unknown suspects on bicycles approached him seeking any money or valuables in his possession. The victim safely fled the area and was able to escape without injuries.

The second incident reportedly occurred between 1:10 a.m. and 1:20 a.m., while a male in his twenties was walking on Windsor Street.  Two unknown suspects on bicycles approached him and asked if he had any money. When the victim responded that he did not have anything on him, one of the suspects verbally threatened him. The victim then removed approximately $60 in cash from his wallet and the suspects fled the area with the money on Windsor
Street heading towards Main Street.

The two suspects in the two incidents were described as black males, possibly in their twenties/mid-teens.  A clothing description was not provided for the first incident, but in the second incident, the victim reported the suspects wearing dark hooded sweatshirts with the hood pulled over their heads. One of the suspects was wearing a dark bandana and white basketball sneakers with dark accents.

Cambridge Police are actively investigating these incidents and ask anyone with information to call Cambridge Police at 617-349-3300.   Those who wish to submit tips anonymously via phone, e-mail, text message or the Cambridge MyPD App, should visit

To avoid being victimized, Cambridge Police encourage all persons to take the following precautions when walking at night:

Do not wear earbuds, headphones, or listen to music while walking alone. Always walk with a friend or in a group when possible. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and trust your instincts. Don't look down at the ground.  Walk with confidence on the street and at a good, steady pace. Keep your head up and observe your surroundings. If you feel you are being followed, show you are suspicious – Turn to look at the person. This sends a clear message that you will not be taken by surprise. If someone is following you on foot, cross the street and vary your pace. If the person following you is in a car, turn and walk in the opposite direction.  Change directions. The best course of action is to hand over money and whatever other belongings are demanded and try to disengage from this confrontational and potentially dangerous situation as soon as possible. Remember, things can always be replaced.  If approached, DO NOT RESIST. Try to remember descriptive information about the robber (height, age, race, etc.) to report to the police when reporting the incident.
