Moving Day at MIT on Saturday, May 7 - Road Closures & Other Traffic Information

MIT Moving Day Traffic and Parking Plan

The following traffic and parking restrictions will be in place in Cambridge and Boston for Moving Day at MIT on Saturday, May 7th.  Complete details of Moving Day are available at http://camb.ma/MITMovingDay.

These closures will be updated as needed.

Massachusetts Avenue Bridge Restrictions

  • Boston-bound traffic will CLOSE 12 noon – 4:00 pm
  • Cambridge­‐bound traffic will be limited to one lane 12 noon – 4:00 pm

Memorial Drive Closings

  • Memorial Drive from One Memorial Drive to Massachusetts Avenue will CLOSE in both directions 12 noon – 10:00 pm
  • Memorial Drive east‐bound from Vassar Street to Massachusetts Avenue will CLOSE 12 noon – 4:00 pm
  • Memorial Drive west­‐bound from Massachusetts Avenue to Vassar Street will remain OPEN 12 noon – 4:00 pm

Cambridge Street Closings 

  • Massachusetts Avenue traffic to Boston will be diverted onto Vassar Street 12 noon – 4:00 pm
  • Amherst Street from Massachusetts Avenue to Danforth Street will CLOSE 12 noon – 4:00 pm
  • Amherst Alley from Danforth Street to Vassar Street will remain OPEN 12 noon – 4:00 pm
  • Memorial Drive intersections at Danforth, Endicott, and Fowler Streets will CLOSE 12 noon – 4:00
  • Memorial Drive access from Audrey & Amesbury Streets will be restricted to west‐bound only 12 noon – 4:00
  • Reid Overpass at the BU Bridge will CLOSE east‐bound 12 noon – 4:00 pm
  • Memorial Drive traffic rotary around the Reid Overpass at the BU Bridge will remain OPEN
  • Ames & Wadsworth Streets from Amherst Street to Memorial Drive will CLOSE 12 noon – 10:00 pm
  • Main Street off‐ramp to Memorial Drive will CLOSE 12 Noon – 10:00 pm
  • Main Street from Hayward to Ames Street will remain OPEN west‐bound only

Boston Street Closings

  • Back Street at Massachusetts Avenue will CLOSE 12 noon – 4:00 pm
  • Storrow Drive off‐ramp to Massachusetts Avenue will CLOSE 12 noon – 4:00 pm

Parking Restrictions

  • Parking will be restricted on Memorial Drive from Massachusetts Avenue to the Longfellow Bridge 6:00 am – 11:00 pm
  • Parking will be restricted on Massachusetts Avenue from Vassar Street to Memorial Drive 6:00 am – 11:00 pm
  • Parking will be restricted on Ames Street 6:00 am – 11:00 pm
