Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christopher J. Burke today announced that Dwan Knight, 24, of Dorchester, was arraigned and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, 2nd offense, and a firearm violation with one prior violent or drug crime in Cambridge District Court yesterday in connection with the May 15th Bishop Allen Drive parking lot gunshots incident.

Judge Roanne Sragow set bail at $15,000 cash and then ordered the defendant held due to an open probation warrant. The next scheduled hearing in this case is Thursday, June 23.

“The defendant allegedly opened fire in a public space which could have resulted in serious harm to members of the public, fortunately no one was injured," said District Attorney Ryan. "The apprehension of the suspect in this matter was the result of a thorough investigation that followed that incident."

“As a result of the due diligence showcased by our officers the night of the shootings and throughout the follow-up investigation, we were able to quickly apprehend this suspect,” said Cambridge Police Commissioner Burke. “While we continue to investigate this incident, this is an important arrest. We will not stand for this type of behavior in our community.”

At approximately 2:14 a.m. on Sunday, May 15, officers responded to Bishop Allen Drive and discovered two motor vehicles parked in Lot 6 that were struck by gunfire. There were no reported injuries or victims, but after the Cambridge Police canvassed the area, officers recovered two firearms and 13 shell casings.

Authorities say that evidence discovered from one of the vehicles parked in Lot 6 at the time of the incident was utilized during this investigation.

This incident was investigated by the Cambridge Police Department and supported by the Boston Police Department.

This charge is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Noah Ertel.
