A homeless individual, Kenneth Alston, 55, was arrested following an aggravated shoplifting incident, where the individual concealed clothing item while in possession of a tool that could be used to remove a theft detector and left the store without paying for the items from a local retail establishment. The individual also had four warrants for various offenses.

Cambridge Police responded to a retail store for a report of shoplifting. Upon further investigation, Christopher Reed, 30, Cambridge, was charged with shoplifting by concealing, trespassing, and receiving stolen property and placed under arrest.

Members of the Cambridge Police Special Investigations Unit arrested Jake Silveira, 24, 1366 Broadway Apt. 10G in Somerville, at a Concord Avenue restaurant and charged him with Distribution of a Class A Substance - Heroin and Conspiracy to Violate the Controlled Substances Act. A Somerville resident was also summonsed into Cambridge District Court on charges of Possession of a Class A Substance - Heroin and Conspiracy to Violate the Controlled Substances Act. Detectives on surveillance observed the two meet in the rear of the restaurant near the bathrooms and enter together. Believing a drug transaction was occurring, Detectives approached the two and were able to recover cash from Silveira and suspected heroin from the Somerville resident.

A security officer called stating that they had an unwanted person on the second level of the business who has been stealing from the food kiosks on and off for the past couple of weeks. He further advised us that this male was stopped and issued a trespass from Cambridge Police officers on 12/24/16 at 6:07 a.m. This unwanted male was located concealing himself on the floor behind a food counter. This male refused to identify himself and was placed under arrest for trespass after notice. When the suspect was brought to the station, he once again refused to identify himself or communicate with officers in any manner and refused to be booked. Later in the morning, officers attempted to book the suspect a second time. They came to the determination that the suspect was mute. The suspect was later identified as Jeffery Jones, 28, 59 West Dedham Street in Boston.

A Cambridge resident came to the police station to report that she was using her computer on Wednesday night when she saw a news story that actor Denzel Washington was dead at age 61. She clicked on the news story only to find that it was a virus, which infected and froze her computer. Another ad appeared on the computer claiming to be Microsoft and claiming to be the only way to clean the computer and to restore it to working order. She communicated with the ad and they asked for all of her personal info and tried to charge her credit card $181.00. The resident contacted her bank and they put a hold on the credit card.

Upon arrival, police witnessed Xi Zhao, 27, 61 Beachview Road in Boston, punching another male and placed him under arrest for assault and battery. The victim received a small laceration to his forehead because of the attack. The victim had to be transported to the hospital for his wounds.

Michael Gaskill, 46, homeless, was placed under arrest for Malicious Destruction to a Motor Vehicle and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon on a Person Over 60 to wit a spring-loaded baton. Gaskill attempted to get money back from the victim that he had given to them and when the victim refused, Gaskill made threats to harm them. Gaskill followed the victim to their vehicle and while the victim was inside the vehicle, Gaskill stated "This is what I am going to do to you!" and struck the victim’s vehicle three times with a spring-loaded baton causing damage to the vehicle.

Cambridge Police responded to Cambridge Park Drive for a suspicious package left at a front door. Upon arrival, a staff member pointed out a brown shopping bag that she said had some items inside what she believed to be suspicious. The bag was a shopping bag and was open. An officer could clearly see into it and it appeared to be lab equipment. The officer took possession of the property and was bringing into to the station to log it in the Property room. While en route to the station, the owner of the equipment called and the officer returned to Cambridge Park Drive. The owner of the equipment stated he left the bag behind when he was dropping off his child. He stated he was a scientist and this was his research equipment.

CPD, CFD and Pro EMS responded to the intersection of Hawthorn Street and Mt. Auburn Street for a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. The operator of the vehicle stated that she did not see the pedestrian in the crosswalk due to the glare of the sun. The pedestrian sustained injuries to her chin and right leg. The pedestrian refused to go to the hospital.
