The Cambridge Police have made an arrest following an investigation of a breaking and entering to a residence early this morning on Decatur Street.

Following a call to the Emergency Communications Department, Cambridge Police responded to a Decatur Street home at approximately 4:08 a.m. this morning after a resident reported hearing a window in their home being broken. Responding officers arrived within minutes and discovered the home had been broken into and the resident’s motor vehicle had been stolen. At 4:41 a.m., while officers were still investigating the Decatur Street crime, police received a report of a home being broken into a few blocks away on Erie Street near Brookline Street.

Cambridge Police coordinated an extensive search of the area with numerous police officers, including a Boston Police Department canine officer. During this search, at approximately 5:05 a.m., the motor vehicle stolen from the original call on Decatur Street was located by Cambridge Police officers on Essex Street near Massachusetts Avenue. Police subsequently arrested a suspect inside a nearby bank ATM.

The suspect – Spencer E. Santos, a 23-year-old male from Cambridge – was arrested and charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and Unarmed Burglary. He was also arrested on an outstanding Cambridge District Court arrest warrant for Breaking and Entering a Building.
