Officers responded to Grant Street for a malicious destruction report. A vehicle window was smashed at approximately 2:00 a.m. A brick was found in the vehicle, and a backpack containing children’s books was missing.

A resident of Cambridge reported an online scam. The victim was in contact through social media with a suspect for the purpose of purchasing sold-out concert tickets, and the suspect insisted upon payment in the form of an online gift card. After the victim sent the gift card, the suspect ceased all communication. The retailer issuing the gift card informed the victim that the card had already been depleted.

Officers responded to Fairmont Street for a report of malicious destruction of property. The victims heard a loud bang at 2:52 a.m. and discovered damage to their front windows that appeared to have been caused by a BB or pellet gun.

A resident of Cambridge reported that an unknown male, described as late thirties, dark blue jacket, with short blonde hair with blue eyes, opened the rear door to their parked vehicle. The reporting party’s bag was in the back seat, but the suspect was startled when he noticed the vehicle was occupied. He fled on a blue bicycle down Windsor Street toward Palermo Street.

Officers responded to a Rindge Avenue residence for a report of a stolen bicycle. The bicycle, which was removed from a fence post between 6:30 p.m. August 14 and 1:00 p.m. August 15, is described as a black Nishiki riding bicycle with yellow and white lettering and lights on the front and rear. The owner’s combination lock was smashed and left hanging on the fence post.

HUMBOLDT STREET

Officers responded to a Humboldt Street residence for a breaking and entering to a motor vehicle that occurred between 8:00 p.m. August 14 and 5:14 p.m. August 15. The owner noticed the seat had been moved all the way back and the center console and glove box were accessed. A multipurpose tool was missing from the glove box, but the victim is unsure if anything was stolen.

MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE

A resident of Cambridge reported being the victim of a check fraud scam at approximately 4:00 p.m. August 10. The victim was approached by a suspect who asked them to cash a check for him. Although the victim felt uneasy about the situation, they agreed to help because they felt that the suspect was truly in need. The victim deposited the check, gave the suspect $1000, and was later notified by their bank that the check had bounced. The facts and circumstances in this case are very similar to another recent check scam where an arrest was made.

ALEWIFE BROOK PARKWAY

Loss prevention at an Alewife Brook Parkway business reported that a shoplifter they had detained was now assaulting them. The suspect, a black male in his forties, repeatedly pushed a loss prevention officer out of the way as he fled the store. No injuries were reported and the stolen property had been returned.

Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop for an improper turn at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Prospect Street. As a result of the traffic stop, Ashley Drolet, 28, 165 Old Marsh Hill Road, Dracut, was placed under arrest for a warrant out of Newburyport District Court for multiple motor vehicle violations, including Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Liquor, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Michael Tritto, 30, 149 Pearl Street, Malden, was arrested in Central Square on a warrant out of Malden District Court for Assault and Battery, Witness Intimidation, Kidnapping, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Extortion by False Report of a Crime.
