Deputy Superintendents Stephen Ahern and Jack Albert were selected into the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative’s inaugural Meta-Leadership Project Hall of Fame

The Cambridge Police Department is proud to announce that two of its Deputy Superintendents – Stephen Ahern and Jack Albert – were selected into the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative’s inaugural Meta-Leadership Project Hall of Fame.  The National Preparedness Leadership Initiative is a joint program of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

The Meta-Leadership Project Hall of Fame was launched as part of NPLI’s 15th anniversary and participant projects were chosen as those that made tangible progress, address a real-world problem, and whose impact went beyond the scope of the program itself. Two of the chosen teams featured Cambridge Police Deputy Superintendents.

Deputy Ahern participated on Team You Can Act, which worked to deploy bleeding cessation tools accessible to the public (similar to defibrillators) as part of the national Stop the Bleed campaign. They established a pilot deployment at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, North Caroline that has since become a permanent installation.

Deputy Albert’s Team Push2Breathe worked to get opioid overdose reversal medication, such as Nolaxone, into the hands of public safety professionals and the general public along with sufficient instruction to allow them to be administered effectively. They established pilot programs in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Jacksonville, Mississippi. A subsequent program was established in Montgomery, Alabama.

“We are extremely proud that Deputy Superintendent Ahern and Albert have been recognized by the NPLI as inaugural inductees into their Hall of Fame,” said Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville G. Bard, Jr. “This recognition is a testimony to the impact their projects made not only within the program, but in society. Deputies Ahern and Albert’s experiences with the NPLI enhanced the value and leadership they have delivered to the Cambridge Police Department and community.”
