Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville Bard Jr.  have confirmed that the pedestrian struck by a boom truck in Cambridge this morning has died. At approximately 6:53 a.m., Cambridge Police and Cambridge Fire responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck in Harvard Square on Brattle Street in the vicinity of Out of Town News. Upon arrival, first responders located a female in her 60s who had sustained serious injuries. The woman was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the decedent was struck by a boom truck while trying to cross the street, and that the decedent was not in a crosswalk. The operator of the boom truck remained on scene.

This is an open and active investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Cambridge Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and no charges have been filed.

No further information will be released pending notification of next of kin.
