Two Suspects Arrested After Cambridge Police Officers Respond to Person with Gun Call in Harvard Square; Gun Recovered

A 28-year-old Dorchester man and a 25-year-old Lynn woman were arrested this afternoon after the Cambridge Police responded to Harvard Square for a report of a person with a gun. The call was initially received at approximately 3:20 p.m. in the area of 36 JFK Street/The Garage. A man reportedly lifted his shirt and showed a gun, which was located in his waistband, to a group of men following a verbal altercation.
 

A search of the area was conducted and a suspect matching the description provided by the reporting party was quickly located by Officers in the area of the Chipotle Mexican Grill in Central Square (598 Massachusetts Avenue). Chayanne Velazquez, 28, Dorchester, was taken into custody by Cambridge Police Officers. A second suspect who was with Velazquez – Stephanie Ford, 25, Lynn --  was also taken into custody after a gun was located inside her backpack.  The gun was recovered and taken into custody. Velazquez was arrested for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Carrying a Firearm without a License. Ford was arrested for Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License. Additional charges are pending at the time of this release. 

The details contained above are allegations.  The suspects are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
