MOTOR VEH, RECEIVE STOLEN C266 S28

GREEN ST
Cambridge Police responded to Green Street and Western Avenue for a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers observed three damaged motor vehicles, as well as a damaged traffic signaling device and damaged do not enter sign. Officers also located an injured party who was transported to the hospital. Officers found out during the course of the investigation that one of the motor vehicles had been stolen. A witness on scene was able to provide a description and a video of the suspect operator on scene. While on scene, officers were also dispatched to Green Street and Pleasant Street for the same suspect attempting to steal another motor vehicle. A short time later the suspect was located at his residence medical attention was requested for the suspect. Jerry Vastey, 19, 1 Putnam Gardens in Cambridge, was arrested and charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury, Leaving the Scene of Property Damage, Attempt to Commit a Crime, and Operation a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License. During the booking process, Vastey was found to have warrants out of Boston District Court for Receiving Stolen Property -$1,200, Trespassing and Attempt to Commit a Crime.

A resident of Cambridge called the CPD Teleserve stating on 10/23/2021 she received a telephone call from a suspect who stated her electric bill was delinquent. The suspect stated the resident owed $498.99 immediately to prevent her electricity from being turned off. The resident believed this to be true so she bought 2 separate VISA cards to pay the "delinquent bill." The suspect told the resident the first card did not work, when in fact it did, so the resident bought the second card for the exact requested amount of $498.99. The resident provided the VISA card numbers to the suspect via cell phone text.

A resident of Cambridge called the CPD Teleserve to report that his bicycle had been stolen. The victim states his bicycle was locked to a fence in front of Putnam Avenue when it was stolen. The victim states the theft occurred on 10/25/2021 sometime between 7 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.

A resident of Cambridge called CPD Teleserve to report a past assault. The victim states on 10/25/2021 a suspect, who is unknown to him, approached him on Mass Ave. in Cambridge and began to shove and punch him. The victim states during the assault the suspect accused him of "messing with little kids.” For his own safety, the victim stated he ran into a nearby store to avoid further abuse from the woman, who left the area in an unknown vehicle.

A resident of Cambridge called the CPD Teleserve to report a larceny. The resident states an unknown suspect opened a package that was delivered to his front porch and stole all of the items that were inside of it. The resident states the larceny occurred sometime between 10/23/21 and 10/25/21 and the stolen items had a total value of $500.
