MASSACHUSETTS AVE
Cambridge Police responded to a Central Square department store for a report of a disturbance. Specifically, an individual contacted ECC regarding an assault that took place inside of the department store. When responding Units arrived on scene they met with the reporting party, who directed police to Christopher Hagins, 42, homeless out of Cambridge. Hagins was immediately confrontational, belligerent, and uncooperative with Officers on scene. The initial victim declined to press charges and left the area. A short time later, an employee of the same department store contacted ECC regarding Hagins and reported that he was assaulting and threatening staff. When responding units returned to the department store, Hagins had already exited and was across the street. Employees stated that Hagins stole a bottle of alcohol and then verbally assaulted staff prior to passing all points of purchase with said bottle of alcohol. Hagins then crossed the street and confronted Officers in an aggressive/agitated manner, verbally belligerent and scaring citizens on scene. At one point during this response, Officers observed Hagins spray paint the sidewalk, which is owned and maintained by the City of Cambridge. As a result, Hagins was placed under arrest for Vandalizing Property and Disorderly Conduct. A search incident to arrest revealed an unopened bottle of alcohol, which was confirmed stolen from the department store that the employee had witnessed and previously reported to Officers on scene. Therefore, Hagins will also be charged with Shoplifting by Asportation.
