On 10/5/2023 at 1:13am Cambridge Police arrested John Munguia, 30, 5609 Hub Street in Los Angeles, Ernest Elton, 21, 200 Cove Way in Quincy, and Lachlan Anders, 22, 5 Eleanor Street in Allston, for charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle. Munguiawas also itation for possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Elton was also charged with unlawful possession of a theft detection device deactivator/remover. Officers conducting routine patrol on Massachusetts Ave in Central Square conducted a random license plate query on a Honda Accord stopped on Mass Ave at the intersection with Prospect St. Massachusetts Ave is a public way in the City of Cambridge. The query of the license plate returned a vehicle status of stolen vehicle. The query further showed that the vehicle was stolen out of Boston on 10/4/2023. Officers followed the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop by activating the blue lights and sirens on their marked patrol vehicles at the intersection of Massachusetts Ave and Brookline St. The driver, Munguia, ran from police during the stop and was subdued quickly by officers. The passengers, Elton and Anders, were mirandized and uncooperative during questioning. All three were subsequently placed under arrest. Munguia was also in possession of a glass mug containing beer when initially stopped by police. Munguia was unable to produce a valid driver's license. Upon an inventory of the vehicle, two theft detection device deactivator/removers were located in the back seat area of the vehicle where Elton had been sitting at the time of the stop.
