Cambridge Public Library to Launch Cooking Series

The Cambridge Public Library is launching Cambridge Cooks, a new cooking program series aiming to foster community, learning, and cultural diversity through cooking, on Tuesday, September 19 from 6-7 p.m. In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month, the first Cambridge Cooks class will host local chefs Tres Latinas at the Main Library for a live arepa-making demonstration, followed by a free tasting and Q&A session. Registration is required for this event, and classes can accommodate 25 participants.

Each month, the Library will invite local chefs and culinary experts to use the Library’s mobile kitchen cart to present free cooking classes for patrons. Participants will learn basic cooking skills, as well as diverse, nutritious recipes that they can make at home. The Library hopes to foster culinary literacy and community by connecting Cambridge residents with local food entrepreneurs. Each month will offer a new theme or cuisine that explores healthy eating, food accessibility, sustainability, and more. The courses will also educate patrons on the safety and sustainability benefits of induction stoves. 

“The Library is thrilled to offer opportunities for food education to the Cambridge community,” says Maria McCauley, director of the Cambridge Public Library. “Food plays such an important role in building community and learning across cultures. This series will address important topics like reducing food waste, eating locally, and cooking nourishing meals.”

In addition to Tres Latinas on September 19, the Library will host Chef Anthony Haley from the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts for programs on Wednesday, October 4 and October 25.
