Did you know that fire companies respond to nearly 200 elevator entrapment & stalled elevator calls per year. Typically the Rescue & a Ladder company are dispatched. A Squad will be dispatched if the rescue is unavailable. Some of Rescue 1's elevator rescue tools, keys, etc. are shown in photos below.
Following standard guidelines & safety protocols, trained firefighters will cause as little damage as possible to extricate trapped passengers in a timely manner. If there is a medical emergency, our EMTs and Paramedics will quickly start medical care. Depending on circumstances
(blind shaft, obstructed access, etc.) the response may be upgraded to a tech rescue incident and additional resources will be dispatched.
Remember: NEVER ATTEMPT TO CLIMB OUT or SELF ESCAPE FROM A STALLED ELEVATOR!
If the elevator moves during your escape attempt, serious or fatal injury could result. Call 911 and wait for the trained firefighters to arrive. They will secure the elevator and safely complete the extrication!
