The Cambridge Fire Department recently hired 10 new Firefighters. The nine men and one woman were hired from a list promulgated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Human Resources Division as the result of an entrance examination conducted in April 2014.

Three of those hired had already attended the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Stow, MA and held the certification of Firefighter I/II. The other seven recently completed the nine-week Recruit Firefighter Training Program at the Fire Academy and are also now certified to the Firefighter I/II level.

In ceremonies at the Fire Academy on June 10, 2016 Firefighter on Probation Gregory Gutoski was recognized as the top student in the class, and received the Richard N. Bangs Award. Mr. Bangs was the former Chairman of the Massachusetts Fire Training Council.

Six of the new hires are already certified as Paramedics as well. The new members of the department are Joseph Andrade, Zachary J. Bennett, Michael J. Cahill, Clare Rose Collar, Gregory R. Gutoski, James B. Kennedy Jr., Robert A. McVoy Jr., Joseph M. Moore, Cameron R. Moyer and David B. Quigley.

They are now assigned to various fire companies throughout the city.
